More precious than Gollum.

Former federal treasurer Peter Costello has refused to spell out his political intentions, as rumours circulate within the Coalition about “unclean” deals.

Mr Costello is in the spotlight again because it has been revealed that on Sunday he turned down Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull’s offer to replace Julie Bishop as Treasury spokesperson.

Today Mr Costello would not comment.

“Oh I don’t want to go into those things,” he said.

Paul "The Treasurer we had to have" Keating recently-ish said about 'Dollar Sweetie' Costello, "All tip, no iceberg."

Might we suggest that comment was far too generous, and suggest a more appropriate alternative. "All Paddlepop, no stick."

Our other suggestion is, "Bugger off Tip, few are listening - and even less are interested."

At lest eunuchs did have a marginally functional role in the harem.

Something said by Brendan Nelson of which 'Tip' might (but probably will not) take notice.

"One thing I'll never be is some sort of seat warmer."

Good call Brendan. One of your few good calls - but a rooly good 'un.
